How to compare Pokémon prices per pack

By PokeScratch Editorial · Published · Updated

Compare the checkout cost of each booster pack, without guessing the value of accessories or pulls.

Start with checkout cost

Price per pack answers a narrow question: how much of your total purchase cost are you paying for each included booster pack? It is useful when comparing products you plan to open.

Add the item price, shipping, and any tax amount you want to include. Subtract an applicable discount once. Divide that total by the pack count. Use the same approach for every product in the comparison.

A worked example

Consider two hypothetical purchases. Product A costs $30 plus $6 shipping and includes six packs: $36 divided by six is $6 per pack. Product B costs $54 with shipping included and has nine packs: $54 divided by nine is also $6 per pack. The larger box has a higher checkout total, but the pack cost is the same.

Only compare equivalent packs when you want a direct cost comparison. A mixed-set collection box may contain packs you value differently, and packs in different languages are different purchases. The calculator should make those differences easier to notice, not erase them.

Keep the contents in mind

Do not automatically subtract a guessed resale price for accessories or promos. You might keep them, fail to sell them, or incur selling costs. Likewise, a low price per pack does not tell you what cards you will pull or what those cards will be worth.

Use the calculator with the actual listing’s pack count and checkout costs. For a mixed-set box, note which sets are included and decide whether you want every pack before comparing the average with a single-set bundle.

Mixed sets and discounts: two traps

A hypothetical $48 collection with eight packs averages $6. But if only four packs are from the set you wanted, that average does not mean you bought four wanted packs for $24. You spent $48 and received four other packs too. If those extras have no use to you, compare the whole $48 commitment with a product containing only the packs you want.

Apply a discount once to the actual checkout total. For a $60 item with a $10 coupon and $5 shipping, the pre-tax total is $55. With ten packs, that is $5.50 each. Do not discount the headline price and then subtract the coupon again in your spreadsheet. Our two-purchase tool keeps item price, shipping, tax, and discount separate for this reason.

  • Use the same currency and tax treatment on both sides.
  • Unknown pack count means no per-pack result, not zero.
  • An average is not an expected value for the cards you will pull.
